Tokenized Stocks Triple RWA Share, Hit $2.8B

The Situation

Tokenized stocks now account for roughly 15% of the RWA market, triple their share at the start of 2026, with market capitalization near $2.8 billion, according to Bloomingbit’s report on The Block data. RWA transfer volume rose to about $20 billion this month, up from roughly $9 billion last month, as equity-linked products became the fastest retail on-ramp into onchain RWAs. Ondo Finance, Bin-ance’s bStocks and Kraken-linked xStocks now control about 77% of the category. When we covered Crypto.com’s 1,500-name tokenized stock derivative launch on August 13, the question was whether exchange-app distribution would turn equities into the next large RWA wrapper; this week’s data says the answer is already showing up in flows.

The Mechanism

  • The flow is retail equity demand moving into crypto distribution rails. Fractional access, 24/7 trading windows and familiar tickers are pulling users toward tokenized stocks faster than institutional tokenized funds can onboard through diligence cycles.
  • The market is splitting between synthetic exposure and tokenized ownership claims. Crypto.com’s August 13 launch sat in the derivative lane; Ondo, bStocks and xStocks compete closer to tokenized equity wrappers, though investors still need to parse issuer relationship, custody chain, redemption rights and transfer restrictions product by product.
  • Platform concentration is already high. Ondo, Bin-ance’s bStocks and xStocks account for roughly 77% of tokenized stock market value, giving distribution venues early leverage over listings, liquidity routing, collateral eligibility and geographic access.
  • The counterparty map is not the same as common-stock ownership. Users face platform terms, underlying share custody arrangements, market-maker liquidity, jurisdictional exclusions and in some cases derivative-provider risk rather than direct issuer registry status.
  • Transfer volume is becoming a better signal than headline market cap. Monthly activity reported by RWA.xyz data cited by Cointelegraph via TradingView rose nearly 180%, while circulating value rose only 5.9% in that snapshot, pointing to faster turnover and user growth than asset-base expansion.
  • Second-order competition moves to collateral use. If tokenized equities keep gaining holders and transfer velocity, venues will push them into margin, lending and structured-product workflows before regulated market plumbing fully catches up.

The State of Play

Market Position — Ondo leads the reported market with about $957 million in value in the latest Aug. 17 dataset, followed by Bin-ance’s bStocks at roughly $622 million and xStocks behind them, according to Bloomingbit. Earlier RWA.xyz figures cited on Aug. 15 showed Ondo at $872 million, xStocks at $557.8 million and bStocks at $521.8 million, with bStocks already within about $36 million of xStocks after launching in June. The delta is the distribution race: Bin-ance is compressing the lead time that tokenized equity platforms once needed to build float.

Regulatory Landscape — The SEC taxonomy question from our August 12 coverage remains the gating issue: issuer-sponsored share records, third-party tokenized wrappers and synthetic derivatives do not sit in the same legal bucket. Offshore and EEA structures can scale faster through broker, MiFID or derivative frameworks, while U.S.-facing products still face securities registration, exchange, transfer-agent, custody and shareholder-rights questions. Treasury’s separate GENIUS Act stablecoin rule proposal sharpens the cash-leg discussion, but it does not answer whether tokenized equities can move from app balances into recognized securities-market settlement.

Key Data

  • Tokenized stock market cap: about $2.8 billion, per Aug. 17 reporting; earlier Aug. 15 RWA.xyz “distributed value” was $2.38 billion, a roughly $420 million difference across methodology/date.
  • RWA market share: tokenized stocks now represent about 15% of the RWA market, roughly 3x their share at the start of 2026.
  • Transfer volume: roughly $20 billion this month, up from about $9 billion last month, per Aug. 17 reporting; RWA.xyz data cited Aug. 15 showed monthly transfer volume at $23.13 billion, up nearly 180%.
  • Holders: tokenized stock holders rose to 1.31 million, more than doubling over the past month, according to RWA.xyz data cited by Cointelegraph.
  • Active addresses: monthly active addresses increased 34.62% to nearly 572,000.

By The Numbers

  • Top-three platform share: Ondo, bStocks and xStocks control about 77% of tokenized stock value.
  • Ondo Stocks: surpassed $1 billion in value and processed $27 billion in cumulative trading volume over 10 months, according to the company release carried by The Manila Times.
  • Ondo ecosystem holders: crossed 200,000, up 20% over the last 30 days; newly launched Ondo Perps cleared $8 billion in cumulative volume.

What's Next

The next catalyst is product classification. If platforms publish clearer terms on custody, redemption, transferability and shareholder rights, institutional desks can separate tokenized common-stock exposure from derivative wrappers and collateralize accordingly. Without that clarity, the growth stays exchange-led and retail-heavy, with liquidity concentrating around the venues that control listings rather than the issuers whose stocks the tokens reference.
