Monday — Tokenized funds hit $9.0B AUM, up 181.3% YoY.
Tuesday — NYSE/DTC tested tokenized settlement with 30+ major firms.
Wednesday — SEC queued tailored crypto-offering rules; trading exemption possible.
Thursday — Crypto.com launched 1,500 tokenized stocks/ETFs from $1.
Friday — MUFG targeted 24/7 onchain JGB repo DvP.
Saturday — Bitwise/Superstate announced Aug. 13 tokenized BSOL shareholding.
The Week's Throughline
Tokenization moved from “can assets go onchain?” to “which legal form, settlement rail and regulatory perimeter wins?” The week split the market into three lanes: issuer-sponsored records, institutional settlement/collateral plumbing, and synthetic price-exposure wrappers.
The Moves That Mattered
- Tokenized funds proved institutional demand, but not yet composability. Monday/Aug. 10 showed $9.0B in tokenized fund AUM, while the largest Wall Street products still have less than 1% deployed in DeFi.
- NYSE and DTC put tokenized equities inside core market plumbing. Tuesday/Aug. 11 mattered because the pilot started with DTC-held securities and tested delivery, repo, lending, margin and collateral workflows with 30+ firms.
- The SEC made taxonomy the gating issue. Wednesday/Aug. 12 shifted attention to whether tokenized assets are issuer shares, investment contracts, derivatives or secondary-market wrappers.
- Crypto.com showed the synthetic route is already scaling offshore. Thursday/Aug. 13 brought 24/7 exposure to 1,500 U.S. stocks and ETFs, but without ownership, voting rights or shareholder claims.
- MUFG and Bitwise favored controlled records over free-floating tokens. Friday/Aug. 14 and Saturday/Aug. 15 both used blockchain as synchronized books-and-records infrastructure, not bearer-style asset issuance.
By The Numbers
- Tokenized fund AUM — $9.0B; +181.3% YoY, +12.6% QoQ (Monday/Aug. 10).
- Tokenized RWA deposits into DeFi — $2.3B to $7.4B; +$5.1B over the year (Monday/Aug. 10).
- DTC tokenization pilot participants — 30+ firms, including NYSE, BlackRock, Goldman, JPMorgan, Nasdaq and Vanguard (Tuesday/Aug. 11).
- Crypto.com tokenized equity menu — 1,500 U.S. stocks/ETFs, minimum $1 exposure (Thursday/Aug. 13).
- MUFG repo settlement target — 24/7 real-time DvP versus today’s one-to-three-business-day cycle (Friday/Aug. 14).
The Landscape Shift
The important change this week was that “tokenized securities” stopped being one category. NYSE/DTC and MUFG are testing institutional post-trade infrastructure; Bitwise/Superstate is exploring issuer-authorized shareholding records; Crypto.com is distributing synthetic exposure through a regulated European entity; and the SEC is trying to draw lines between them. For institutional readers, the question is now less about blockchain adoption and more about which lane has enforceable rights, regulated transfer records, eligible collateral treatment and a compliant money leg.
